Restore Playability Without a Full Refret

If your guitar has fret wear, buzzing, or uneven playability, a professional fret level and dress may be the right solution.

At British Audio, we offer fret leveling, crowning, and polishing for guitars that still have enough fret life left to be restored without a full refret. This service can dramatically improve feel, reduce buzzing, and help your instrument play more cleanly across the neck.

What Is a Fret Level and Dress?

Over time, frets wear unevenly. That wear can cause buzzing, dead spots, poor bends, and inconsistent feel.

A fret level and dress corrects those issues by carefully leveling the frets to a uniform height, re-crowning them for proper shape and intonation, and polishing them for a smoother playing surface.

When appropriate, this can be one of the best ways to improve a guitar’s playability without the cost of a full refret.

Signs Your Guitar May Need This Service

  • Buzzing in certain areas of the neck

  • Notes choking out during bends

  • Uneven fret wear

  • Flat spots or light grooves in the frets

  • Poor playability not fully corrected by a setup

  • Frets that feel rough or inconsistent

If the frets are too low or too worn for this service to be effective, we will let you know if a refret is the better option.

What’s Included

Our fret level, crown, and dress service may include:

  • Fret leveling

  • Precision fret crowning

  • Fret polishing

  • Fingerboard conditioning as needed

  • Neck adjustment

  • Full setup and final play test

Each instrument is evaluated individually to ensure this service is the right fit before work begins.

Pricing

Fret level, crown, and dress service starts at $199+ depending on the instrument and condition of the frets.

An $80 bench fee is due at drop-off and is applied toward the final total if the work is approved.

When a Refret May Be the Better Option

A level and dress is only effective when there is enough fret material remaining.

If your frets are heavily worn, extremely low, or past the point where proper correction is possible, a full refret may be required.
